Medical technology, diagnostics, and digital solutions firm Wipro GE Healthcare has announced an investment of over USD one billion (Rs 8000 crore) towards manufacturing output and local research and development (R&D) initiatives over the next five years.
Products including the ‘Made in India’ positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET) CT Discovery IQ will be exported to 15 countries. Additionally, the ‘Made in India’ Revolution Aspire CT, Revolution ACT and MR breast coils will be manufactured in India for the world. This strategic investment is expected to bolster Wipro GE Healthcare’s local manufacturing footprint to address the growing domestic and international market.
Besides, GE Healthcare has contributed to the local supplier ecosystem of MedTech component manufacturing, spanning capabilities like plastics, EMS, machining, castings, 3D printing. The investment will include creation of additional four lakh labour hours.
With ‘Make in India’ leading the expansion of manufacturing footprint, India’s capability as the MedTech hub is also getting strengthened. Also, Wipro GE Healthcare is among the first MedTech companies to ‘Make in India, for India and the world’, investing upwards of over USD four billion in India since inception.
